“Over The Rainbow” Family Childcare is located in Brookeville, MD. We are a multicultural and bilingual program for children between 6 weeks and 5 ½ years of age. Our objective is to offer parents a safe, loving, and trustworthy environment where they may leave their children for childcare, and where children will be able to speak and learn Spanish in addition to English.
Philosophy
“Over The Rainbow” provides a relaxed atmosphere of loving and caring, in which a child is encouraged to develop his/her own talents, uniqueness and self-esteem. Our program is open to children of all races, faiths, ethnic backgrounds and nationalities. It nurtures all aspects of a child’s growth: social, emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual. Our program places equal emphasis on helping the child learn the disciplines of social interaction and personal responsibility.
The child’s development is enriched by a variety of learning experiences, such as free play, art, dramatic play, books, music, science, and stories. The more active children are in their work, the more they learn and remember. We want children to become independent, self-confident, curious learners, who can work well with others.

Development
we have prepared a special curriculum for all ages that will help improve the more important areas of a child’s development. Social- Emotional (independence and relations with others), Cognoscitive (the power of daily learning) and Sensorial (the training of the senses). Your Child will be actively involved in a daily routine including the following activities:
*Art and Crafts * Music. *Outdoor Play *Spanish immersion *Dancing Time. *Circle time (story time, daily learning of math, science, and language areas). *Pre-school learning (numbers, letters, colors and shapes). *Dramatic and imaginative play. *Motor skills/manipulative (puzzles, Legos, blocks, etc.). *Entertainment time (movie, TV program or video according with the topic of the week). *Sports Time (soccer, basketball, kick ball). *Potty Training, and much more!!!!
Positive Guidance
Over The Rainbow’s philosophy of guidance is designed to help each child develop the ability to work in collaboration with other children and to develop social skills. Simple classroom rules are established and posted. The children along with the teachers will develop our rules.We will use redirection and reflection to help children develop problem-solving skills. Children will be given choices to help them make good decisions.No child is subjected, under any circumstances, to corporal punishment. Guidance procedures are reviewed with every staff member, volunteer and intern.
Biting is a normal developmental behavior for young children. When very young children get frustrated, they may resort to the primitive act of biting. Biters will be given something acceptable to bite as the teacher says “biting hurts people; bite this instead.” Children will be encouraged to verbalize feelings and frustrations. The child being bitten will be taken care of immediately and encouraged to tell the biter that he/she does not like being bitten. Parents will be included in discussions and problem-solving sessions so adult

She is emotionally supportive to our girls, extremely professional, kind and thoughtful as well. We are so very excited to see her branching out on her own as we know kids under her care will thrive, but of course we are sad to see her leaving our current in-home day-care.
